This volume examines the emergence of a whole new range of trends and tropes triggered in Indian English Fiction with the advent and phenomenal success of Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children. It explores how this fiction negotiates the concerns about language, diaspora, feminism and other major contemporary issues, and foregrounds the heterogeneity and indeterminacy of things. Equally does it critique the larger assumptions about nation, history, half-baked identities and cultures, often enough not in sequential representational modes but in complex, non-linear narratology. Finally the study, finally, problematize how this contemporary Indian English Fiction holds ‘a conversation with the world’ through the portrayal of a post-colonial, post-modernist India.
