For VOLUME I A treasure house of information, this book is the result of an exhibition of alumni work that was held during the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Department of Architecture, School of Planning and Architecture Delhi. The positive response to not only the call for material but also the exhibition itself prompted our senior-most alumnus to suggest a publication documenting the exhibition. As a result, even before the exhibition closed we were discussing the many ways in which we could bring alumni of 75 years together in one book. This book has work from the very first batch of SPA Delhi to the most recent (at the time of handing over the manuscript to the publishers). This, the first of two volumes has 51 award-winning projects of alumni who graduated between 1955 and 1993. The projects included vary from simple residences to large public buildings, with the clients varying from individuals to members of large public concerns – in other words, a variety of projects showcasing the best of our wonderful alumni. For VOLUME II In continuation to the first volume of award-winning works by the alumni of the Department of Architecture, SPA-Delhi, this is the second and concluding collection of 50 projects. This volume showcases our alumni who graduated between 1993 and 2020. This volume also includes projects of varying sizes, typologies, and complexities that truly exhibit the gradual changes that have occurred over the past 75 years in creating projects and in designing them. In other words, the kind of projects that are awarded through architectural design competitions and the approach to newer demands by younger architects may be seen by the discerning eye.
