The volume explores more than a century of agrarian change in the irrigated areas of Tamilnadu since the 1860s. Based on archival documents, particularly computer processed data from village settlement reports and actual field work, it attempts to offer new interpretation of socioeconomic transformation of agrarian society under British rule and to interpret the agrarian changes of the post-independence period in the context of longer historical perspective.
