About the Book

This book attempts to develop a theoretical model of Christian education with a subaltern approach in Indian context. The educational ministry of the churches in India seems to face double ambiguity; on the one hand cognitive-theoretical and on the other cultural-practical. Moreover, it faces dialectical tension between universal and particular. While the universal and global outlook makes Christian education out of context and irrelevant, the stress on particular context may render it insular and parochial due to lack of solid theoretical model. Therefore, we face dialectical tension between these two opposing approaches. Likewise we face dialectical tensions between gospel/faith and culture, tradition and contemporaneity, identity and difference, and instructional-schooling and pastoral-community model. Christian education as theological praxis and incarnational in its content and style, how to bring into fruition these two opposing realties in Indian context in a subaltern approach is the main goal of this book.
