The book looks at the vernacular architecture and traditional development in the hills through vitally crucial state of Himachal Pradesh. It documents and dwells upon the traditional construction techniques like the Kath-Kuni technique, amongst others. The book very skillfully tries to weave together the importance of vernacular of the hills with its integral relationship with sustainability. The authors also look at the changing architectural character of its most important city Shimla and stress the need as to why the lost heritage and wisdom of the tradition not be restored. About the Author: I P Singh Dr. IP Singh is an Associate Professor and former Head of the Deptt. of Architecture, NIT Hamirpur (HP). He is a regional Planner from SPA Delhi. His research work relates to the areas of Regional Planning and Eco–Tourism Planning policies of Himachal Pradesh. Dr. Minakshi Jain is currently a Professor HAG, Deptartment of Architecture and Dean Research and Consultancy NIT Hamirpur (HP). She is the former Director SPA Vijayawada (AP). Her research work includes sustainable development of ecologically fragile areas of Bharmour, a village in Himachal Pradesh.
