This book Basavanna and Emerson as Transcendentalists is a comparative study of Basavanna, a 12th century Indian founder of Lingayat religion and Ralph Waldo Emerson, a 19th century American poet, essayist, lecturer, and Transcendentalist philosopher. The book has three chapters Basavanna and the Philosophy of Transcendentalism, R. W. Emerson’s Philosophy of Transcendentalism and Basavanna and Emerson as Transcendentalists: A Comparison. It is a comparison of Basava and Emerson in regard to their socio-religious, even politico-economic and cultural views, experience and world-vision.
