Battles for Delhi: Dilli Kareeb Ast stresses the importance of preserving and strengthening the unity and integrity of India by ensuring a strong, unifying rule at the centre. This book critically examines how conditions of high unity led to a successful defence of India's territorial integrity and how a weak, fissiparous existence led to India's capitulation to foreign rule. It describes a series of thirteen important battles, from the Battle of Tarain in the late thirteenth century to the Indian War of Independence in 1857, that were fought, either successfully or unsuccessfully, to preserve the unity of India. Analysing these Battles for Delhi, the book makes a passionate plea for not taking India's unity for granted but for continuously working to preserve and strengthen it.
