About the Book

Buddhist Impact on Rabindranath Tagore Creations is one of the extremely important and very much relevant fields of studies in present academic world. Rabindranath Tagore, a great poet and philosopher, cherished a genuine love and admiration for Gautama the Buddha as the greatest man ever born on this earth. The greatness of the Buddha and that of Buddhist culture are equally manifested in his life and works. His superb songs and poems in praise of the Master, his dramas and inimitable prose writings glorifying the eternal virtues of Buddhism remain unparalleled in modern Indian literature and as a matter of fact, in any literature of the world. Besides, his keen and deep interest for the revival of Buddhist culture in our national life bears ample testimony to his love of Buddhism. Therefore, Tagore can rightly be called a modern torch-bearer of Buddhism culture. This present research work is a critically examine the contribution of Rabindranath Tagore how far enhance the Buddhist culture in India and added valuable chapters to Buddhist literature. This book contains four broad chapters with many subchapters. The first chapter chiefly deal with the impact of Buddha's teaching on the thought and reflections of Tagore. The next chapter explored information on Tagore's contribution to Buddhist studies by establishing the various academic centers within the Visva-Bharati University. The chapter three categorically discovered eight pieces of special writings on Avadana in Rabindranath Tagore's poem entitled Katha. The last chapter explored a profound philosophical concept of Rabindranath Tagore that how deeply Tagore's life, ideology and understanding of nature and universe were influenced by Buddha and his teachings. This book rightly focused that Tagore has applied Buddha's ideology in his own life and used in his teachings as well. This volume will continue to remain as a source book for future researcher; I believe and will establish itself as one of the leading reference books for scholars working on Buddhist Philosophy, Culture and Rabindranath.
