Education, employment, accessibility have paved way for upliftment and social inclusion but the social respect and dignity for Dalits is still a challenge. There had been number of initiatives starting from Constitutional provisions, legislations and Welfare schemes for the protection, security and inclusion of Dalits. In spite of all these efforts still they are vulnerable social group as they are subjugated to deprivation economically and socially, despised physically and psychologically and exploited politically and culturally. This book narrates the challenges of vulnerable and victimized group of working Dalit youth who strive towards social inclusion. It also provides social work intervention strategies to face these challenges and problems with hope.
About the Authors
Dr. A. Louis Arockiaraj, SJ, a Jesuit Priest groomed and formed by the Society of Jesus has a passion for St. Ignatius' insights and pedagogy. He is an Assistant Professor from the Department of Social Work, Loyola College and has been involved in academics, administration and collaboration with agencies for the past fourteen years in the field of Community Development. Being specialized in community development has several papers to his credit published in reputed journals. This book is the outcome of his Doctoral Research on Challenges of Rural Dalit Youth on Social Inclusion is yet another milestone in his career emerging from his field-based experiences.
Dr J. M. Arul Kamaraj is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work, Loyola College, Chennai. He has completed Master of Social Work, Master of Labour Studies, Master of Business Administration, Master of Psychology, Master of Journalism and Mass Communication, Master of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, Master of Public Administration and Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work. He has sixteen years of teaching and research experience.
