An important academic project on Chinese Sources of South Asian History in Translation: Data for Study of India-China Relations Through History has undertaken by the The Asiatic Society, Kolkata, during early 2000. Former Associate Professor of Chinese, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Professor Haraprasad Ray took this project and he translated and edited nine volumes, of which he himself supervised the publication-work of volumes I to VIII. His main objective was to bring into relief the socio-economic and politico-cultural relations between India and China. He also gave a brief account of the various Chinese dynasties in tabular form in every volume. The previous volumes of this series have received raving praises and are regarded as valuable sources for the scholars.
