About the Book
Written in a humorous style, Confessions of a Bureaucrat, basically a Memoir, is based on the personal experiences of the author while working at various levels in seven Central Ministries and in the CAG’s Organization. The book contains, out of hundreds of incidents, 51 stories attempting to highlight the funnier side of bureaucracy and the political bosses. The idea is to produce laughter and sheer entertainment. In the process, however, serious issues confronting the author like the defence scandals, India’s vanishing Forests and Tigers, destruction of the Ganga and Yamuna, plight of the Tajmahal, corruption at high places, role of the CBI, gross misgovernance and the politics of appointing weak CAG (the most important Officer of the Constitution who is equated with the Judge of the Supreme Court) have been dealt with great objectivity. The book should be of interest to the policy makers, the public servants and the civil society and the citizens. This book is about my personal reflections and not of scholarship, a rendezvous in the lanes and by lanes of the memory land. This is basically a modified version of my earlier book ‘On the Corridors of Power: The Theatre of the Absurd’.
