Consumer protection law refers to the legal framework that aims to safeguard the rights and interests of consumers in their interactions with businesses and service providers. These laws are designed to ensure fair and ethical practices in the marketplace and provide remedies for consumers in case of any violations or harm. Globalization and liberalization have broadened and deepened the linkages of national economies with the worldwide market for goods and services. In digital era, the market for consumers is becoming ever more complex, requiring consumers to navigate and process increasing amounts of information and make appropriate choices. Consumer education that inculcates skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to prevent consumer detriment and enhance consumer protection has therefore become a necessity. The primary legislation governing consumer protection in India is the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (CPA 2019). This law replaced the earlier Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and introduced several new provisions to enhance consumer rights and establish an efficient dispute resolution mechanism. Because of online markets and enterprises, this digital era is drastically altering how customers connect with one another, which has a significant impact on our economies and societies.
