Dalit literature emerged as a result of the manipulative character of the Indian caste system and is marked by the assertion of Dalits, subalterns and the rest lower strata of Indian caste-class-religion ridden society. The Dalits' deplorable situation has resulted in their subjugation and dehumanisation, culminating in cultural silence. After their awakening, they began to protest against the discrimination and injustices levelled against them by projecting their voices through poetry, plays, fictions and autobiographies, challenging the status quo. In a period when human rights issues are receiving more attention, literary depictions of such voices have gained new significance and Dalit writing is getting global reception as protest literature. This anthology enitled Dalit Writings: Resistance, Identity and Equity contents 24 chapters which aim to address different issues raised by Dalit literature and will explore the distinct versions of Dalit consciousness through reviewing of the representation of the caste questions in the celebrated literary texts. About the Editors Capt. Dr. Arvind M. Nawale is working as Associate Professor and Head, Department of English in Shivaji Mahavidyalaya, Udgir, Dist: Latur (Affiliated to S.R.T.M. Universioty, Nanded, Maharashtra). He has 49 Books (including authored, translated, edited, co-edited/co-authored), 23 Paper Presentations, 52 Journal Papers/Book chapters, 62 Talks, 9 Literary Interviews, 5 Forewords/Book Review to his credit. Prof. Dr. T. Marx is working as Professor, Department of English, School of Humanities, Pondicherry University, Puducherry with 20 years of teaching experience. Prof. Dr. N.D.R. Chandra is Professor in the Department of English at Nagaland (Central) University, Kohima Campus. He was Fulbright-Nehru Senior Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Brown University, Providence and Wisconsin University Madison, USA in 2010-11.
