The steps lead to and fro the riverfront. The term ‘Ghat’ also refers to the area in the vicinity of any river, from where one can reach the water. Human race has always been in close affinity with the rivers. Most of the ancient civilizations and cultural centers developed at some river bank. A study of such river banks therefore, becomes the study of the birth and growth of human mind and its various faculties.
