About the Book

In view of the growing consumption for rubber and allied products in our everyday life, rubber has become one of the world’s most important industrial raw materials for the manufacturing sector. This has further impacted the growth in the demand for latex as well. Rubber plantation is a new cash crop invading the market in the region and there is a rise in the percentage of rubber farmers for the want of alternative source of livelihood. However, an in-depth study on rubber plantation in terms of production and productivity and the issue of livelihood sustainability of the rubber farmers has not been done in the study areas. Accordingly, this book titled ‘Economics of Rubber Plantation in Nagaland’ tries to analyse rubber plantation and its impact on the local economy. It is revealed in this book that there is a greater economic viability of rubber farming in the study area. Given the right support systems, rubber plantation has potentiality to provide sustainable livelihood to the rubber farmers and further boost up the local economy as well. Dr. N.
