Ever since I started writing and publishing popular articles in local newspapers and magazines in the mid- 1980s, I have till now written more than 300 pieces in both Assamese and English languages. Most of the articles written in English addressed international issues. There are, of course, some others dealing with the local and regional ones. I have now decided to publish some of the selected ones in this volume for the benefit of students of political science at the post-graduate level. In doing so, I have tried to be conscious of the relevance of time and sequence. I hope such a position will enable the readers to locate the background settings of problems that originated decades ago. This volume contains forty articles. I propose to bring out in the future some more volumes containing my published articles in Assamese. This book has been dedicated to Alaka Sarma, an academic, former Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly, and an institution-builder who set up a school for the children of disadvantaged children, named AKSHAR, which has already made a mark in the world of primary and secondary education. Above all, she is a great humanist and social interventionist, always ready to extend her helping hand to distressed people.
