About the Book
Ethnic conflicts, especially around land and identity, have been part of life in Tripura for five decades. The indigenous tribal communities who resented loss of land to the immigrants, opposed acquisition of more of it in the name of national development. Their impoverishment and what they perceived as attacks on their identity were the main reasons of ethnic conflicts. Peace efforts have to deal with these issues and on justice to all the stakeholders. The present publication that limits itself to development-induced displacement (DID) is an effort to understand the issues involved in DID by studying the extent of land loss, displacement and rehabilitation. After analysing its implications for the DP-PAPs, the publication ends with a reflection on possible alternatives as steps towards reconciliation based on peace with justice.
