About the Book
This book is an attempt to discuss the works of the Indian film industry considered rare and exceptional because of their stand on the female gaze. The book is an analysis of different beautifully crafted movies curated to defy the established norms of the film industry that favor the male gaze. Traditionally speaking, the male gaze is an idea that supports the views and desires of a heterosexual male. It is undeniable and a matter of no surprise that the Indian film industry is dominated by the male gaze. Major movies and shows are examples of the male gaze, completely conforming to the established gender roles and stereotypes. Indian society is still far behind when it comes to gender equality, and the male gaze only encourages this gender discrimination. It supports the subordination and subjugation of women and their treatment as the second gender. The male gaze causes a lot of problems as it defines the roles, characteristics, and abilities of people based on their sexuality or gender.
