About the Book
This fiction is about a daring adventurous rescue operation undertaken in the most treacherous environments of Chang La Pass in the Ladakh region of the Himalayas in April 1976. A military vehicle gets under a deadly avalanche in the afternoon of 14th April 1976 and gets carried in its torrent. This spot has had a bad reputation for avalanches with centum fatalities. The party reconciles to the bone chilling fact that they are all dead. At least, that is what is ingrained deep in their psyche. By the morning of the next day, it starts slowly dawning on the officer that he is not yet dead. The bitter fact that it is only a question of time that they are destined to perish under the avalanche takes the reader through the shuddering extremes of fear and anxiety. The novel makes the reader sit on the edge of the seat exposed to the extremes of imminent death, fatigue and craving for life. Flashes of military adventure, ruthless tenacity, audacious and steadfast refusal to succumb to sure death sustain the suspense. There appears a maverick and daredevil helicopter pilot Venky who is the epitome of thorough and dedicated professionalism. Aborted search missions and extreme weather conditions compounded by the terrifying terrain contribute an amazing drama to a dare devil rescue operation. Only one person dies. The young officer disobeys the orders of his Commanding Officer to leave the dead body and, to top it all, the dead body being the first evacuee, is certainly a poignant part of this story.
