The book is the collection of selected papers presented at the Satyagraha Centenary Internal Conference on ?Globalisation of Gandhian Way: Sociology, Politics and Science of Satyagraha (1906-2006)?. The conference, inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 13th Nov 2007 at JNU, New Delhi was concluded on 19th Nov at the Bhithiharwa Ashram of Champaran (Bihar) by Ila Gandhi of South Africa. The event, organised for an active interaction of the analysts and practitioners of satyagraha; had delegates from seventeen countries, including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, South Africa, Iran, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Ukraine and United States. The journey of Satyagraha as a trajectory of civilizational progress of human being began in 1906 in South Africa. It reached British India with the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi and spread all over the world due to the contributions of different activists and movements. The Gandhian way has been pursued through creative engagement of large number of people including Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan in Pakistan, Martin Luther King in USA, Nelson Mandela in South Africa, Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar and the Dalai Lama of Tibet. Divided into three different parts, the book is a collection of papers on conceptual understanding of Satyagraha, gender perspective of Satyagraha and relevance of Gandhian way in the globalisation times. When the world is facing challenges like poverty, conflict and various other socioeconomic crisis, such a wide range of discussions in the book gives a meaningful reading to researchers, academics and analysists.
