About the Book
The findings recorded in this book are facts based on empirical evidence. The success story of the Mahtma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has been critically analyzed over the years by various stakeholders, including citizens, civil societies, policymakers, and more importantly, by research organizations and academicians. The program's decadal anniversary in 2016 was celebrated with much fanfare by both the enacting UPA and the succeeding NDA governments and claimed credit for its successful implementation alike. This book discusses the more than decade-long years journey of MGNREGA in three dimensions. One part dealt with the various provisions entitled under the Act, emphasizing the payment of wages, wage rate, compensation for delay payment, and the probable reasons for the delay in payment of wages. another part of the book traces the performance of MGNREGA in India as a whole and Manipur in particular based on the data available through the online portal. In the later part of the book, the introductory provisions given under the MGNREGA were assessed among Job Card Holders belonging to the special category groups. The frequency of attending training and audit programs among the workers is also elaborately discussed. More importantly, the relative relationship of attending training programs and social audit on satisfaction level after mediating the impact of awareness and performance is shown through a structured model.
