About the Book
"Outside the Gate" is a missiological paradigm evolved by scholar Orlando E. Costa, to explicate the vicissitudes of the post-modern era, drawing from his own experience in the USA and Latin America. The methodology he employed was both synthesis and integration, combining two extreme poles of missional progress in the praxis of mission. The author, using descriptive- analytical methodology, discusses the traditional paradigms of the missions of the church, which have gone through phenomenal modifications and expansions, particularly since the time of the Reformation. The contemporary era witnesses new paradigms, which indicate both the expansion of the Kingdom of God and the failure of churches to adapt to the changing global context. The author discusses the development of paradigms from pre-modern to modern to post-modern and offers an excellent critique of the same. The post-modern paradigms ought to be borderless, new, open, and should be found "beyond the boundary." Both the mission and Church bodies are exhorted to explore relevant missiological alternatives.
