Jainism is a revered religion of Odisha since its establishment. Parswanatha, the 23rd Tirthankar had preached Jainism here in the 8th/9th century BC. The most famous Vardhaman Mahavira, 24th Tirthankar had visited ancient Kalinga capital Toshali. Kharavela of Chedi dynasty had patronised the religion which was the state religion during his period. Low-roofed caves of Kumari Parvat constructed by him for Jain monks and inscriptions are the ancient heritage of the state and one of the earliest cave architecture of the country. Till date Jainism continues its hold in the state and one will find many archeological sites and sculptures etc. in diffèrent parts. The present book JAINISM AND JAIN TRAIL IN ODISHA describes about the Jain sites and sculptures spread across the length and breadth of the state along with it's influence on the culture.
