The study has analytically examined the problems faced by Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) in the postmigration and the shifts in the cultural practice of the community with respect to both the younger and the older population. It examined how the cultural practices of KPs youth have been modified or changed compared with older generations? How deeply separation from their homeland has caused this cultural shift, resulting in the demand for return and rehabilitation of KPs in the valley of Kashmir? The study has been divided into five chapters and a bibliography. In the introduction, the core issue has been elaborated with the help of a review of the existing literature, directly or indirectly related to the subject. In the second chapter, the topographical features of Kashmir, climate, geography, area and political division, language and dialects have been analysed. It also includes the introduction to KPs lifestyle, culture, customs and traditions, dressing and food habits and the religious practices they follow. The meaning and significance of culture have been discussed at length and also ponders on the meaning of identity crisis and how culture and identity are interrelated? The third chapter includes the cultural historic background of Kashmir under different rulers at different time periods and how they shaped the culture as well as the political aspects of Kashmir issue from pre-partition to 1989 i.e. the period of migration? In the next chapter, the extensive survey by randomly selecting 300 respondents was conducted among the KPs population in Delhi, and the Jammu regions. The data collected has been analyzed and represented through graphs and tables. Finally, the findings of the study have been summed up and suggestions have been given to preserving the cultural heritage and on the return of KPs in the valley. It also provides solutions on the issue of return and rehabilitation of the community in the valley in light of the abrogation of article 370.
