About the Book
The continuing concern for quality in higher education has projected need to evaluate performance of universities and colleges. National Knowledge Commission (NKC) has suggested reforms in higher education system for enhancing quality in higher education. To assess efficiency and effectiveness of present education system, auditing knowledge can be best solution.
The book aims to acquaint the students as well as information professionals with the fundamental concepts of knowledge audit. The available literature shows little evidence of any study on Knowledge Audit in context of teaching and research in higher education. There remains a need for an efficient model that can help practically to perform Knowledge Audit of higher education institution.
Present book is outcome of the experience gained by the author, while working on a UGC Emeritus Fellowship Project. This book has been structured to cover all aspects of knowledge audit of higher educational institution. It introduces the concept of knowledge audit, its significance and benefits; procedure of auditing university department, auditing teacher, teaching and learning, how to audit research to judge its quality; procedure for auditing tacit and explicit knowledge assets.
The book attempts to introduce the procedure of knowledge Audit in simple and reader friendly presentation. It is hoped that this book will facilitate university and college authorities in India to know the status and quality of a department or the whole organization in relation to finance, administration, teaching, and non-teaching personnel, quality of teacher, teaching and learning; quality of research; adequacy and proportion of tacit as well as explicit knowledge inventory.
It is further hoped that the book will stimulate heads of departments in universities, teachers, research guides and research students to master the art of knowledge audit, a necessary ingredient for judging the quality of teaching and research. Perhaps it would be a useful if Library and Information Science Schools give more emphasis on Knowledge audit in their academic programmes
