The FD has been assigned the mandate of conservation of biodiversity besides ensuring provision of multiple benefits to human well-being while fulfilling national and global commitments on the sustainable development. In past century or so, the scope of forestry has dramatically changed, enlarged and adopted newer, participatory management approaches. In the changing scenario, management of forests and other natural ecosystems in human dominated landscapes is a daunting task and it calls for effective leadership at all hierarchical levels within the FDs.
