The History of State Trading Enterprises (STEs) in India dates back to 1956, when State Trading Corporation was set up, with a view to undertake trade with East European countries. During the pre-liberalisation era STEs played a stellar role in promoting India products across the globe and meeting domestic demand. But can they continue doing so in the near future?
