Sri Rajat Kumar Kar is a household name of Odisha as an orator par excellence, playwriter, story writer, researcher, columnist and actor. Since 1944 he has been associated with movement for Odisha's cultural renaissance entitled “Bhanja Jayanti” by Kalinga Bharati. He Strivied hard for the propagation of Odisha's traditional culture including delineation of Specialty in Upendra Bhanja and other medieval poets, preservation of Odissi music and dance from 1950 and lead this movement from 1960 till 2022 date for a period of six decades. Shri Kar has been accepted as an authority on the philosophy of Lord Jagannath incourse of his running commentary of the Car festival (Ratha Yatra) since 1958 till 2021 for a period of sixty-two years. The listeners are enraptured, feasted and fed while listening to the special style of running-commentary which includes history, philosophy and specific message of universal brotherhood present in the Shri Jagannath Culture. He is the oldest and longest living commentator who was actively participating in every live-telecast of Rath Yatra. He has to his credit a number of popular articles and research papers based on his research throughout his life, published in various magazines and newspapers worldwide. Shri Rajat Kar is also a pioneer in reviving the dying art of 'Pala' and popularising it throughout Odisha and worldwide. Shri Rajat Kumar Kar apart from his contribution in the field of literature is a distinguished educationist who has brought in many monumental reforms in the education system of Odisha as the Director of Education, Govt. of Odisha. Awarded as 'Best-playwrit' by Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy, 'Life time Achivement Award for Literature' by Odisha Sahitya Akademy Honorary D.Litt Degree from Utkal University of Culture and many other laurels.
