About the Book
Manipur University was established in 1980 and ever since it had to deal with a unique set of challenges. The indefinite strike launched by the students, teachers and staff members of the university from 31 May 2018 and the efforts that were made to restore normalcy provide important lessons for the management of universities. Jarnail Singh (IAS), who previously served as Chief Secretary to the Manipur government, was appointed by the state High Court as Administrator of the university and given the task of resolving the impasse. The book tells the story of how he rose above the daunting challenges that came his way to restore the academic integrity of the university and establish it as a centre of excellence. He worked as Administrator of Manipur University from October 2018 to November 2020. Jarnail Singh is a 1974 batch IAS officer. Important positions held by him include: Joint Secretary to the Prime Minister (1996-2004), Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur (2004-2008), and Secretary to GOI. He is recipient of the 'Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration for the Year 2007-08.
