About the Book
Nanakshahi Calendar is a Sikh calendar, which is simple, accurate and scientific and free from the flaws of Bikrami samvat. It covers the period from 1469 CE to 2100 CE and is based on original calculations. Tithi and solar dates for Bikrami and Old Nanakshahi calendar have been calculated for the city of Amritsar. From 1999 CE to 2100 CE the solar Nanakshahi dates have been given according to the calendar approved by Sri Akal Takht Sahib first in 1998 CE, and then in 2003 CE with minor revisions. The main section of the work provides ready reference tables of Nanakshahi calendar for 632 years (1469 to 2100 CE) and their corresponding dates in Common Era, Bikrami samvat and Hijri samvat. The author has also tried to resolve the issues of Sikh history dates, which were at variance, on the basis of primary sources. Hence it has become a most sought-after research tool for the scholars of Sikh history. Though the work is of seminal importance for the Sikh community as it puts the Nanakshahi Calendar on scientific and authentic footings, it is also useful for the academicians/ historians engaged in the study of medieval Indian history. It is an excellent research tool that is very helpful for testing and verifying the authenticity of historical documents.
