Gleam of Nissim Ezekiel’s name remain undiminished in the history of Indian poetry for his factual presentation of Indian life. It is not far from the truth to say his poetry overwhelms with Indianism. Every word of his verse resonates the melody of the way of Indian life. His verse sporadically appears to go spiralling with irony and sarcasm. The vehement flow of love torrent in his poems sometimes assumes the grimace guise. Modernity and urbanity blur the brightness of ancestral custom and present it with a borrowed face. Rarefying filial love leads to laxity in family bonds and affection. Ezekiel projected Indian sensibility in its real face. The novelty of colonizer’s culture tempts the natives to absorb it and to imitate them. Ezekiel tried to take off the chintzed blankets from over the sinful life of women, the pseudo pride of unwise men in Indian patriarchal society. He tried to bring to light the factitious man-woman relationship. His humorous castigation on deformed love, lust, marriage, gender bias and caste system manifests in his poetry edifying dunce, blunt and malevolent society.
