The book Perspectives on Teacher Education is based on the new NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) syllabus for B.Ed. programme taught in Indian Universities. The book discusses the policies, procedures, and provision designed to equip prospective teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom as well as in society. It considers the transmission model of teaching—a system in which experts transfer knowledge to prospective teachers. It discusses the reflective teaching methods, which consider the teacher development as an ongoing process of experiencing practical teaching and learning situations, reflecting on them under the guidance of an expert, and developing one’s own insight into teaching through the interaction between personal reflection and theoretical notions offered by the expert.
