About the Book
A socio-economic analysis of Population migration has recently attracted increasing attention from planners, social scientists and researchers seeking a thorough understanding of its concept and decision making process. In India, out-migration is largely influenced by the social as well as economic status of the migrant family. Migrants either visit regularly or send remittances to the origin areas and hence it is an important force of major socio-economic changes in the rural areas. An important objective of the study is, therefore, to provide answer to some of the questions concerning the determinants, pattern and laws of migration. More importantly, it will be useful to understand the process of migration by analysing the socio-economic status of the migrant families. The work is an attempt to explain the pressing social and economic situations which compel people to move out of their native place of origin, to determine the favourable factors (pull factors) as opportunities at urban destinations and also to analyse its social and economic implications.
