About the Book: Environmental studies is a multidisciplinary field which studies human interaction with the environment. It brings out physical sciences, life sciences, commerce, economics and social sciences together so as to solve contemporary environmental issues. The filed encompasses study in basic principles of ecology and environmental sciences. Environment or ecology means surroundings in which we are living and their interaction. Ecology, the term derived from Greek word “Oekologue” is the part of environmental studies in which one studies about living organisms, and non-living entities. It also deals with all those things on which we are directly or indirectly dependent for our survival, whether it is living components like plants, animals or non-living components like soil, air and water. The university grants commission decided (2003-2004) to address the issues of environment by introducing a basic course on environment as the undergraduate level.
