About the Book

Reservoir fisheries development is one of the priorities of Govt. of India to increase the fish production, income and livelihood of fishers. Technology development and adoption of stock enhancement, culture based fisheries (CBF) and enclosure culture techniques like cage farming in tropical Indian reservoirs have resulted in a spurt in fish production and employment generation. The management strategies have been considerably innovated over the years for better fish yield. However, there exists a colossal gap between the present fish yield and potential. In this context, our book titled “Advances in Reservoir Fisheries Management” deals with means and ways to harness the untapped fisheries potential of vast reservoir resources in the country. This book will provide new dimensions on recent advances in various aspects of reservoir fisheries and 22 chapters covering diverse topics viz. strategies for fisheries enhancement, fish biodiversity conservation, biotic communities, ecosystem health, cage and pen culture technologies, nursery rearing of fish, species diversification, nutrition and feeding management in cages, fish health management, management of exotics, post-harvest management, and governance and institutional arrangements. The book will serve as a ready reckoner for fishery managers, fisheries officials, entrepreneurs, fishers, students, researchers, planners and policy makers for their better understanding with updated information and aid in reservoir fisheries development in India.
