Perhaps, the first of its kind in India, the book, “Religion without Religion: The Humanist Alternative”, aims at driving home to the public the need for Religion without Religion--- a harmonious fusion of Religious Humanism and Secular Humanism---through which individuals can interact freely and peacefully, and different societies can operate in a just, inclusive and equitable way and satisfy their own needs while co-existing with others, thereby fostering unity in diversity as well as diversity in unity. About the Author Born in 1939 in a South Indian village, Prof. Kamjula Venkat retired as Professor of English and Principal of Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, (A.P) after putting in 36 years of teaching and research experience. He has authored several books on various aspects of world literature in English as well as higher education in India. A recipient of the Best Teacher Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1980, Prof. K.V. has contributed his mite to strengthening of English studies in India by serving as Chairman of the Indian Association for English Studies for two terms during 1993 - 1999. He was elected President of All India English Teachers Conference held in Haridwar. In recognition of his rich services to the cause of English studies in India, he was given 'Life Time Achievement Award' by the Indian Association for English Studies. He is an advocate of the humanist approach to the study of literature. He has travelled widely, visiting countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Australia and USA to participate in international conferences. He has lectured at the Fifth World Shakespeare Congress held in Tokyo (1991), and International Shakespeare Congress held in Washington DC (1996).
