This book is based on extensive research work conducted by the author in National and State Archives, Government Record Rooms, Government Reports as well as Private and Unpublished Papers. The author traces the role played by the Gorkha soldiers, in collaboration with local recruits, in the task of consolidation and perpetuation of British rule in the North East Frontiers. It was with the help of the superior military power that the British could expel the Burmese from the trouble-torn Brahmaputra Valley, subdue the turbulent hill tribes of the North East and unite the whole region into one single administrative unit called the Province of Assam.
