The novel is set in era in which the evil of gender discrimination was most prevalent in the nation. The novel deals with the life which was itself a challenge for the protagonist-Aparajita. Akin to her name she - Aparajita i.e. one who can never be defeated. Despite the confrontations posed by life at times. She recollected her grandma's wise preachings and snatched victory away from the jaws of defeat. Discouragement and weariness didn't cast her down. The book, however, is not too moralizing in nature. Attempts have been made to present the story in the most riveting fashion. One cannot make light of the humor instilled in certain incidents in the book, Aparajita, with unwavering enthusiasm, constant hard work and determination, was able to retrieve herself from the cluches of discrimination.
