Bengal has history in multiple layers. However, the early 19th century to the middle of the 20th century was the most vibrant and prosperous period. This book covers the socio-cultural heritage of this period along with a brief description of the manifestation of 100 luminaries of Bengal, who made the country proud in the global scenario. An Inventory of the residences of these luminaries (which still exist) has been compiled in this book with a location map, photographs, historical significance, architectural merit, etc., with an eye for preparation of the future Database of Heritage Assets of Bengal. This book has been the first ever comprehensive compilation of these built-heritages to be made available in the public domain. This book also highlights that not only the building with architectural merit has significance, but also the historical backdrop of the building and the builder is of utmost importance. The idea of publishing this book is to bring into the limelight the present scenario of these houses to generate awreness on their present sttus and to find out a solution for their preservation.
