Future Earth is a new international research initiative, which develops the knowledge for responding effectively to the risks and opportunities of global environmental changes and for supporting transformation towards global sustainability. Keeping the focal themes of Future Earth initiatives in mind, the book has compiled 58 research papers under five sections: 1) Sustainable Use of Land Resources, 2) Sustainable Use of Water Resources, 3) Environment, Health and Sustainable Development, 4) Disaster Risk Management and 5) Sustaining Rural and Urban Environment. The research papers included in this book are at different spatial scales viz. international, national, regional or local. Most of the papers focus on sustainability and linking of environmental change and its effect on land, water, energy, food and health.
