About the Book
India is the land of temples which bring before us the glory of bygone era. Their magnitude and magnificence indicate the civilizational effort of our ancestors. Temples were educators of the society by teaching philosophy and spirituality through icons. Thus, they are encyclopaedia of everything that exists in Hinduism. Without interpretation of temple architecture and iconography they are just places of worship and do not elevate the devotee to zenith of spirituality. Thus, our ancestors conveyed highest form of knowledge through intricate temple sculpture.
In the past few centuries, the temple construction activity declined thus pushing all the ancient texts and literature associated with temples to oblivion. The common populace forgot the temple science and thus their interpretation. It is our small effort to revive the logic behind elements of temples and temple construction referring the ancient texts. This book is an abridged form of our larger book to be published this year with the title “Interpretation of Hindu Temples”. On the eve of 75 years of India’s Independence, we have simplified and presented 75 aspects of Indian Temples in this book.
