Anaesthesia has advanced several folds in recent times and our goal for writing the “Textbook of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia” is to provide a convenient, concise, easy and upto date information relevant to veterinary anaesthetists and surgeons. The contents of this book cover every aspect of anaesthesia and divided into 18 chapters. The book introduces the undamental concepts of anaesthesia alongwith information on preanaesthetic preparation for different species and commonly used drugs in animals such as premedicants, all types of anaesthetics are described alongwith their doses and antidotes. To acquire basic knowledge about anaesthetic delivery system, it has been described in separate chapter. Techniques of local and regional anaesthesia which are commonly used in large and small animals have been mentioned separately in the book. The techniques have been supported with adequate number of tables, diagrams and photographs. Use of muscle relaxants and monitoring of anaesthetized patient, management of anaesthetic emergencies during anaesthesia and anaesthetic considerations in specific diseases involving liver, kidney and respiratory system have been described in separate chapters. Chapter on management of anaesthesia for zoo and wild animals is also included. In recent years, the ever increasing emphasis on the treatment of animal pain has placed veterinary anaesthesiology and pain management in a central role in the delivery of humane veterinary care. Accordingly a separate chapter on pain and its management has been included in this book.
