The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 is a legislative reform introduced to replace the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973, aiming to modernize and enhance the procedural framework governing the criminal justice system in India. (BNSS) has been given assent by the President of India on 25th December 2023. It comes into force on 01/07/2024. The Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita makes forensic investigation a mandate for offenses punishable with an imprisonment term of seven years or even more. The crime scenes will be visited by forensic experts for the purpose of gathering forensic evidence and recording the process. All the inquiries, proceedings, and trials are to be held in electronic mode. The production of electronic communication devices shall be allowed for the purpose of investigation, trial, or inquiry.
