About the Book
Asia's strategic polarisation today stands stimulated by China's conflictual and adversarial stances on the South China Sea dispute. Taking off from this Asian polarisation is the emergence of new 'balance of power' architectures in the Asia Pacific. As a non-claimant state in the South China Sea dispute, Singapore has shown great interest in the evolution and handling of the regional hotspot issue. Singapore's policy towards the South China Sea issue has been fairly consistent in the past decades. One particular area of concern for Singapore has been the freedom and safety of navigation. Singapore has also done quite a lot to enhance maritime security in the region. As expected, Beijing lost no time in rejecting the unanimous ruling of an international tribunal at The Hague that China has no legal basis for much of its claims on the South China Sea. But given the tribunal's lack of powers to enforce its rulings, a resolution of the dispute with the Philippines will have to be the stuff of international diplomacy. Dr. D.N. Roy, M.A., Ph.D. (political science), Assoc. Professor, possesses throughout brilliant academic career, joined the college in 1994 as lecturer and promoted to Associate Professor is at present HoD (Political Science). He has attended several seminars and conferences and published six articles.
