About the Book

In the process of imperialism and colonialism the conquest and occupation of a relatively small tribal regions and their incorporation into the imperial whole has always been a secondary. It is, therefore, necessary to make an in-depth study of these small tribal countries, their relations with the imperial authority, the pattern by which they were governed and the tribals’ response and reactions so as to include them in the mainstream histories. This book covers a critical study of the British administration in the South Lushai Hills of Bengal since 1890 upto 1898 when the North and South Lushai Hills were amalgamated into a single administrative unit. An in depth study is made on pattern of British administration through the traditional chiefs or Lal and the people’s response and reactions of the system. The book particularly highlights the works of the successive Superintendents and the Chiefs of South Lushai Hills.
