About the Book
The book is about the tobacco-use behavior of the tribal youths of Ukhrul District Manipur. It is an outcome of a five-year PhD program at the Department of Anthropology, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. In this book, the author has tried to explore the complex nature of tobacco-use behavior of youths from an anthropological perspective. The author has successfully managed to argue that tobacco use of an individual or group is a socially, historically, politically, and individually mediated learned behavior. The book highlighted why tobacco-use behavior is not only an individual issue but equally a government and political issue. This book will augment one’s understanding of tobacco-use behavior by providing ethnographic depth on the cultural, social, and political correlates of tobacco use. Hence, it will be of particular interest to policymakers, public health workers, researchers, and NGOs to effectively develop their plans and policies for fruitful intervention in controlling tobacco use in this community in particular and tribal youths in general.
