About the Book
The present volume consists of essays directly taken from the respective author’s M. Phil. Dissertations and Ph.D. thesis, and are original contributions that have not been published elsewhere. This volume covers varied themes ranging from caste-based exclusion and racism in nineteenth century to the mapping of exclusion of marginal communities in higher educational institutions in contemporary India. This volume also contains important aspects of socio-historical analysis of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Hindu Code Bill; Agrarian revolts in North Malabar; Notes on Syrian Christian Kudumba-Charithram of Kerala; Female Sex Workers in Himachal Pradesh; Dalit Women autobiographies; political reservations in Sikkim; student activism centred around caste in higher educational institutions; Tribal religion and resistance in Jharkhand; affirmative action policies; and refugee policies in India. While the themes covered in these essays are important in themselves this book showcases the kind of research conducted at the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy at Jawaharlal Nehru University. We hope that this volume would be useful for the researchers in social sciences and also would engender further research on these themes.
