About the Book

The total investment in the Central and State level public enterprises (public commercial sector) has been estimated to be more than Rs. 60,000 crores. The growing importance of public sector is evident from the increased public sector outlay in each of the successive five-year plans. In the Sixth Five Year Plan, the share of the public sector in the plan outlay is around 58%. The total number of employees in the public enterprises exceed eight million and the number of managers in these enterprises will be a few lakhs. The idea of systematic and planned efforts on executive development through training in public enterprises is of recent origin. Although public undertakings have gone in a big way in the efforts of developing their people by establishing formal training departments and having training budgets sanctioned, it is necessary to review the training objectives, training policies and training programmes in the light of changing technologies and environment. There is a great need to enquire into the whole field of professional management and its role in the country's development. Contents - 1. I.
