For centuries, women are projected as the 'other' and hence marginalised, becoming 'subaltern' only because of their 'gender'. This may happen to transgender as well as those who identify as 'LGBTQIA+' and who do not fit into the patriarchal classifications. Most civilizations have a clear hierarchy of males over females and LGBTQIA+ which can be called as 'Gendered Subalterns'. The recent past is rife with examples of their potentialities and power being acknowledged. Despite their excellent contributions across a wide range of fields, they have been pushed to the background with ease. The book Voicing the Voiceless: Literary Representation of the Gendered Subalterns is an attempt to explore a wide range of challenges that these 'Gendered Subalterns' face while living under the severe confines of patriarchy, as well as how these concerns are addressed through literature.
