Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) are known as All India Services. They are the top-most services of the nation. The entry into the services is through open competitive examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Though the services were in existence from the British Period, the entry of women into these services was very late and in two of these services, women got in only after few decades of independence. The book on Women in All India Services discusses the socio-economic background of women administrators, the problems they face in day today administration, the innovation and changes they are able to bring out, the motivating and the discouraging factors in the services, the reasons for declining interest among the youth choosing All India Services as their career, the obstacles women face to become administrators and the measure suggested to increase the number of women in All India Services.
